A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

If you have used Neurontin has it helped? What side affects did you have?

I take 300 mg at bedtime and it helps with sleep and the nerve pain-- but makes me a little loopy in the morning, which eventually subsides

Yea my RA said it helps more with sleep so that I am more rested and can fight fatigue. No real talk about it helping with pain. I wonder if the more fatigued you are the higher the pain therefor the more rested the less fatigued and less pain?

Oh yes, I definitely get more pain when I don't get enough sleep. I was having a hard time getting to sleep some nights and would lay awake at night staring up at the ceiling. Even before midnight I can feel the pain start to get worse. The nights I fall asleep early (before taking the Gabapentin) I toss and turn a lot so I don't get good rest and I'm always more achy the next day. It really helps me a lot for that reason even at the dose I take (300mg at night only). It just doesn't help so much if you are already in pain other than the fact that it knocks me out and then I have no idea how I feel. I am so sensitive to meds most people don't even believe me. The pharmacist I talked to when I called to ask if it was okay to open the capsules and take half - you're not supposed to do that with drugs that are time release so I wanted to be sure. Anyway, she acted like I was crazy to want to take such a low dose and just said it wasn't going to do anything or me. It may not help much taking such a small dose but it helped me slowly increase to a point where it did help without feeling like I might not ever wake up again or waking up tripped out to the point it is scary. I told my doctor it made me truly understand the meaning of psychedelic.

It doesn't help a lot of the pain I have but it does help the nerve pain I get. I get shooting pains in my thighs especially when I @exercise and I get bee sting like pains that last for at least 30 seconds but seem like so much longer because it hurts so bad. It also helps me to sleep deeper and stay asleep at night and according to my doctor that is really important with fibro. He said I can increase whenever I want to so if I feel like I can handle more in the future I can do that.
