Is Fibromyalgia Really Effected By Diet?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I understand a bad diet making you feel bad, but I've been seeing a lot of articles saying how being gluten free and dairy free is beneficial to fibromyalgia. I'm extremely skeptical of this in case it isn't obvious. The articles were saying how these foods can cause inflammation and cause more pain in people with fibromyalgia.

Although I am not allergic to gluten, I did try a gluten free diet that was extremely strict. I did feel somewhat better but it was very very expensive & I didn't like the food & lost too much weight.

These things are best tried as you just never know. I believe as I feel better with some dietary choices. Aspartame increases muscle pain and spasm and turmeric and black.pepper for inflammation. Effects are immediate.

I have been gluten free for a few years and the fibro tiredness started about two years after that, so in my case, gluten was not the cause.

my doctor put me on an elimination diet for 3 weeks, I'm on day 16. I can't have gluten, corn, soy, pork, beef, eggs, dairy, white sugar, shellfish, processed meat, coffee, tea, chocolate.... I'm sure I missed a few. I'm really getting discouraged because it hasn't helped anything. In fact my stomach actually hurts worse and I've been in a flare the past 5 days. I have 6 more days before I can slowly introduce those things back into my diet. I don't know if I will make it 😟

I have found that it has since merit. However, for me, it is mainly sugar that effects my pain. I have had a LOT of problems with gluten free products because I leaky gut from fibromyalgia.
