Does Any One Else Also Have Lymes Disease?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Holiday, FL

I was tested for lymes disease using the standard test and a few of the other forms of lymes tests that are out there and they found I had lymes not using the standard but an alternative form of test.

Members shared their confusing and often contradictory experiences with Lyme disease testing, with many describing positive results on alternative tests like the Western Blot that were later dismissed by specialists, leaving them questioning whether their symptoms stemmed from untreated Lyme. Several members offered practical guidance, including requesting both standard and alternative Lyme tests, testing during flare-ups for more accurate results, seeking out Lyme specialists rather than general practitioners, and advocating for longer antibiotic courses since brief treatments often proved ineffective. A recurring theme was the medical controversy surrounding Lyme diagnosis, the overlap between Lyme and autoimmune conditions like fibromyalgia and lupus, and the frustration of being caught between positive test results and doctors who refuse to treat.

You should be tested for Lupus and Lymes, plus many more. Right now I am being tested for Polymyalgia rheumatica which is a mouthful. I was told that if I have this I will have to be on steroids for two years which will be a whole new set of problems. Talk with your PCP and your rheumatologist about what test you should have to eliminate any other diseases that you could have with the symptoms you have. Hugs.

Do you know what test they used to diagnose you as positive? I am in NY and can't findo anywhere to be tested other than the test that is 75 % wrong. Also, someone told,me even if one,bar is positive you have Lyme. It's like, being sort of pregnant. You either are or are not.

Dr tested me for Lyme's and I tested positive for 3 bands. Was put on antibiotics for a full month and then went to see a specialist and he said I didn't have Lyme's. I still think all my issues stemmed from that. There is a lot of controversy with a Lyme's diagnosis. Lyme's mimics a lot of auto immune diseases

It is possible to still have Lupus and have negative tests. In a two year span I had two positive ANA tests. When I finally got in with the Rheumatologist, he did another ANA and it came back negative. He insists I don't have Lupus. However, when the test was done, I was past my flareup. I'm now at what I consider my baseline. During my flareup, which started in very late February, early March of this year, I was really bad. It took all my energy just to drive to work (45 minutes each way if traffic is good). Have an ANA done during a flareup and see what the result will be. There are other tests as well the doctor can look at also. In all it took six months before I received my diagnosis of Fibro. Tuesday is my third visit with Dr. Stocker. Fingers crossed he give me something else because Meloxicam isn't doing anything.
