Members responded to someone whose doctor dismissed fibromyalgia as a possibility after blood tests, with the community emphasizing that fibromyalgia cannot be diagnosed or ruled out through blood work alone and that tests only help eliminate other conditions like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. Several members shared that traumatic events including cancer treatment can trigger fibromyalgia onset, recommended keeping a daily pain journal to track patterns and symptoms, and strongly encouraged seeking a second opinion from a specialist who understands the condition. A recurring theme was the frustration many face with doctors who dismiss fibromyalgia as not real, paired with firm encouragement to self-advocate and find providers who will listen and take symptoms seriously.

You can't test for fibromyalgia with blood tests you can only eliminate things like lupus or rheumatoid arthritis

Some research indicates that Fibro can be brought on by a traumatic event/accident etc. I think cancer is traumatic enough.
Might I suggest you start keeping a daily journal of your pain and ability to function.
You will start noticing if patterns emerge and what triggers flares the most. Although can be tricky with that one as flares can manifest weeks later. It is a good way to get to know your body's messages and not have to rely on memory as pain can wreck havoc with it. Better known as Fibro fog.
Armed with your information you can request a second opinion if your doctor seems to brush Fibro aside and you believe you might have it.
Hope this helps. Hang in there till you get the help you need.
Gentle hugs and God bless.

My specialist explained that the point of extensive blood work is to eliminate EVERYTHING else that shares symptoms. She said the only thing currently that can actually test for fm is a spinal tap to see the increase in proteins in the fluids. Because test subjects showed 100% positive along with a specific list of blood test results, it's why we can actually be treated as a true disorder. I'm lucky to have access to a major medical university that has some of the countries leading specialists in the fields of endocrinology and immune disorders. My visits are every 3 months. These visits are mostly about having a conversion about what's going on and a review of my journal. I know this dialog is as important for me as well as those who are trying to find someone to listen.

Lisa, I'm also a breast cancer survivor. I had radiation also. The only thing that these two things share is debilitating fatigue. If you're having pain along with fatigue, find a Doc who specializes in fibro who can speak to all of your symptoms.
