My sister and mom have been diagnosed with fibro. I have sleep apnea and use CPAP. I don't like drugs, especially addictive type ones, but the discomfort and pain is getting to me.

Members shared mixed experiences with medications for fibromyalgia management, with several noting that gabapentin and Cymbalta helped control pain but often caused weight gain, while some experienced increased energy or no side effects at all. Many community members described alternative approaches that have worked for them, including yoga (with one member's daughter becoming pain-free and a yoga instructor), supplements like B complex, magnesium, turmeric, and probiotics, and gentle exercises such as water classes and daily stretching. A recurring theme was the deeply personal nature of treatment choices, with strong encouragement to try what feels right while acknowledging valid concerns about medication side effects and the ongoing challenge of balancing pain relief with quality of life.

There are many alternatives....only you can say what works best for your pain. I might suggest gengle exercise...water class, daily gentle stretching. My doc suggested adding B complex, methyl folate, digestive enzymes and probiotics.

My daughter has successfully used yoga to manage fibro and migraine pain. She loves yoga so much that she has become an instructor! She no longer takes meds at all.

I take both gaba and just started cymbalta. No side effects from gaba, and cymbalta increased my energy levels.
