Does Anyone Not Use Drugs Regularly?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I already take a variety of tablets for various other problems and I'm at the point where i don't want to take anymore tablets everyday.
Obviously if the pain is really bad i will take ibruprofen, Cocodamol if its excruciating, but other than my vital tablets i take nothing.
I see so many people saying they take loads of things to help it and it doesnt seem to do them any good so why put myself in the position of taking more if it may not be beneficial!

I take , tramadol with paracetamol and naproxen and gabapentin... These are the only pain relief that actually works for me, after trying out other pain killers that did squat for me... My rhumatologist said you have to try so many different ones before the right one is for you... Xx

Not everything works for everybody. I think research shows that Lyrica (pregabalin) is more effective than Neurontin (gabapentin) for fibro, but I found the opposite. Everyone reacts differently to meds. If I miss my gabapentin for a few days, I can really feel it, and I definitely feel better when I'm on it. That being said, I know there are a lot of people for whom medication does absolutely nothing.

It's important to differentiate between scheduled and "as needed" medication. Stuff like Lyrica, gabapentin, and Cymbalta are taken every day to reduce fibro symptoms long-term, and other stuff like Tylenol, NSAIDs (Naproxen, Ibuprofen, etc), and opiates are taken "as needed" to help when pain is unbearable. Some people take the latter group regularly (ie. the same amount every day at the same times) if their pain is bad enough.

It might be worth talking to your doctor if over-the-counter medication isn't helping on the days when you need something extra (ie bad pain days) for an "as needed" drug. Tylenol is usually where people start.

I take ibruprofen and solpadol but I try to only take them when I absolutely have to, don't want to become reliant 😊

I only take solpadol or sometimes codiene. Everything else made symptoms worse. But I do try to eat really healthily , very little additives, sugar, or gluten. Boring sometimes but manage the pain better πŸ˜€
