Hi there,

I have been on Neurontin (Gabapentin) for almost 3 yrs now for fibro and back pain along with nerve damage from herniated discs. I am on 600 mg 4 times per day! I am also on Cymbalta since March as well.

I have had barely any relief from these 2 medications.. I have tried Lyrica with no relief and savella isn't covered by dissability so I cannot afford it. I also live in Canada so not all medications that are available in the states are available here :(

I am weaning off of Neurontiread more

Members rallied around someone struggling to find effective fibromyalgia medication after years without relief from Neurontin and Cymbalta, frustrated by weight gain, dental problems, and a doctor who refused pain medications due to age. Several members shared alternative medications that have helped them manage pain, including Tramadol (often combined with Tylenol as Ultracet), Butrans patches for slow-release pain relief, amitriptyline as a Neurontin alternative, tizanidine as a non-drowsy muscle relaxer, and kratom as a natural supplement, though some noted side effects like nausea or concerns about tolerance. A recurring theme was the strong encouragement to find a new doctor who takes pain seriously regardless of age, with members emphasizing that no one should suffer without proper treatment and that advocating for oneself is essential in getting the care needed to function and live life.

What strength of Lirica did you have I'm on 300mg twice a day which I get some relief My biggest saviour though is Cannabis has no bad side effects, non addictive, could grow our own (Governments pending).
Also no one seems to mention meditation and mind control, there is NO Pharma drug that will stop the pain without all the side effects.

I take tizanidine 6mg as a muscle relaxant. I have been taking kratom which is an herbal supplement that reacts somewhat the same way as an opiate but is an all natural leaf that they just grind up they've been using it in Indonesia and Thailand forever. The bad thing is it's the only thing that has given me relief and now because big Pharma isn't making any money on it the DEA is planning on Banning it at the end of September. I was so devastated. There's a petition going around trying to get people to see if we can stop the DEA from doing this. I found an article though where I see now that big Pharma is trying to synthesize the part of the herb that actually helps with fibro pain and that's why they're banning it so that they can synthesize it and make money on it. I wish I had gotten to this site before this medicine is being ready to be banned because it really has changed my life. It's not that I don't have pain but it manages my pain I have also found a homeopathic remedy at CVS I don't know where you guys live if you have that but is a homeopathic treatment for leg cramps. It actually works amazingly well and when I went to the pharmacy I also saw that they also make a fibromyalgia treatment by the same brand it's homeopathic so I'm going to give that a try and I'll let you guys know how it goes. Wishing all of you guys the best this sucks no doubt about it it's hard to stay strong when your constantly being physically and emotionally beat up on.

First of honey you need to find a new doctor! I had a doctor tell me what he was and wasn't going to do, and I told him I respect his decisions so we can end this visit, please hand me a copy of my records and I will exercise my right to find treatment somewhere else! Do that and you will have gotten 50% to where you need to be.

I can't take any of the "fibro" meds. I take Tramadol, Tylenol 4, flexiril, tizanidine and just started the Butran patch. I've never had anything that takes the pain away but these help. Ask your doctor about Butrans. It's an opiod, slow dose, patch that you wear for a week at a time. It's helping me manage the pain better. I definitely take fewer pain meds now. Tizanidine is a better muscle relaxer than flexiril, too. And look in to a new doctor. Yours doesn't sound like the right one for you.
