Fog For Real?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Syracuse, NY

Hi...I am trying to decide if fibro fog is real or medication side effect. The drs upped my meds and I can barely move or think. I was somewhat out of it before but now I feel so bad I'm not sure if I can drive home today.

Members overwhelmingly validated that fibromyalgia fog is real, not just a medication side effect, though many acknowledged that medications like gabapentin, amitriptyline, and Lyrica can intensify the cognitive struggles. Several members shared practical coping strategies, including using calendars and whiteboards to stay organized, adjusting medication timing or dosages with their doctors, and recognizing that stopping medications may help distinguish true fibro fog from drug-related drowsiness. A recurring theme was the frustration of losing once-sharp memory and concentration, coupled with reassurance that this experience is common and manageable with patience and self-advocacy.

The fog is real however the medication in my opinion does make it worse, also one of many reasons I stopped taking medications long ago.

She upped my gabopentin from 100 to 200 MG in the am and 300 MG at night. She is also changing my Prozac to cymbalta. Had it for the first time last night and bad cramps along with insomnia

It is a real thing. It can happen periodically or for days at a time. I use calendars and a whiteboard to keep things straight. It is so frustrating.

I take 300 MG gabopentin and 10 MG melatonin at night and sleep well. I ran out last week away on vacation and slept 0.
