I'm had minor ailments for years but this year I finally got this diagnosis which the Dr said was psychosomatic. Anyhow since then I seem to be going rapidly downhill. The speed has really shocked me and I'm sure my hubby thinks I'm somehow feeding the diagnosis. I don't want to feel this crappy but certainly the diagnosis seems to have sped things up and made it worse. Any thoughts?

Fibro is not pyschosomatic there are a few new theories floating around but it has been proven it's not in our head so don't let anyone ever make you feel that way the symptoms are very real and very debilitating. I have deteriorated very quickly it takes time to come to terms with and get used to not being able to do as much. I used to keep a diary it helped me pin point certain triggers and learn my limits. Regularly overdoing causes more harm than good. All you can do is take is take it one day at a time sending gentle hugs
The best thing to do, In my experience, is ignore the pain as much as possible, I do breathing exercises. Inhale to the count of 5 and exhale to the same. Do this as slowly as you can and try to relax at the same time. Not too easy to do but practice when you aren't in pain to get the rhythm going. I hate having to take painkillers and find the exercises helpful. Good luck to you. Sending hugs xx
Over the last few years I have the symptoms of FM, but did not know what it was. It took the doctors over a year to diagnose FM. Since that time nearly two years ago, I think my condition has got worse. What I am now trying to do is find ways to make my life a bit more bearable. That is one of the reasons I came on this site. I have said before that just reading all the stories that are posted has helped me. I don't feel alone with this illness. I am trying different things supplements, vitamins, anything I can to keep me going. What I am trying to say is don't give up. I have several other health problems some of which I have had for over 25 years, I have learned to live with them, they don't go away, but I will try and keep going.
Just remember you are not alone, I think most if not all of us on this site are here for you.
Before my diagnosis I was sent for a psychological assessment. They told me I was 'normal' and referred me back to my gp. I must add here, i do not consider myself 'normal' as I am a unique person haha! I had most therapies and me i scans, xrays, poked and prodded until finally being given the name fibromyalgia. I had never heard of it! I had most of the symptoms before reading the literature. The only new one I developed was ibs, I don't believe this was psychosomatic. My health has deteriorated over the years and I am now unfit for work and unable to go for a walk. 4 children and a wonderful new husband make life worth living. I am on meds but still have constant chronic pain. I know we all have our own troubles and fortunately I 'only' suffer from fibro. This condition has turned my life upside down but I take each day as it comes. BB xx
If you were diagnosed with FM, I would NOT recommend looking up the symptoms. Yep, that is what I am saying. Sometimes your brain will create some of the symptoms you read about. Happened to me. I read about a certain symptom and the very next day, I had that symptom. All I could think about was "what the heck, brain"! I am sure that particular symptom was psychosomatic. I read it and it magically appeared.
