Cryotherapy

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone ever heard of or tried cryotherapy to treat their fibro? My husbands friend swears by it. It's supposed to eliminate inflammation. It seems there is a new fad popping up all the time spouting a cure for just about everything. I know that inflammation is the underlying root of so many medical issues. So maybe? What have you heard?

Members shared mixed perspectives on cryotherapy for fibromyalgia, with one member describing a severe personal experience involving a foot treatment that resulted in lasting nerve damage and pain, urging others to thoroughly research risks before trying it. Several members expressed hesitation about cold-based therapies due to their own sensitivities to temperature, noting that cold often worsens their pain rather than helping. A recurring theme was the importance of remembering that treatments work differently for each person, and thorough research and questions are essential before pursuing any new approach.

I had cryotherapy on my foot to try and treat a verruca. I visited the doctors the day after having it as i thought it was infected, told no it wasn't, that night got no sleep what so ever, the pain was awful and I ended up going to a and e at 6am, by 7am I'd lost the feeling in my foot and couldn't move my toes. I wasn't told how bad it could be and have bad the side effect were. I'm still having trouble with the foot now and have been since i had it done in feb 2016 and waiting for a hospital appointment to hopefully see if they can fix the mess. PLEASE make sure you ask lots of questions before going though with it.

I can't stand being cold. It makes me hurt all over. I will read up on it though... Never heard of it. Good luck!
