I started on Cymbalta 20mg July 2015. Slowly every 3 or so months I noticed the prior dosage seemed to stop working. As I would up it 10 more milligrams, I was able to have relief again. I am currently on 50mg and am noticing once again that I may need to move up to the 60mg dose. I get nervous because, although, I love the Cymbalta, what do I do when I max out on it? I have heard that 60mg is the optimum dosage for Fibro patients. Does anyone have similar issue?
A higher dose is generally used as an anti depressant - it wont work for your pain... plus it has urinary retention issues
Please keep in mind as you increase your cymbalta dose that the withdrawal symptoms are horrendous. The higher your dose the longer it will take to come off of it if you decide it isn't working... It took me 8 months to wean off of 60mg dose I had taken for 4 years. The FDA calls it cymbalta withdrawal syndrome. They also recommend a detailed withdrawal process that is effective and very helpful. Just keep it in mind especially if you are finding that it isn't working for you.
I was put back on low 60mg of Cymbalta d/t they tried me on Amitriptyline which I ended up very suicidal:( But otherwise I am on Valium et Tyl #3 et I use only when I cannot tolerate the pain anymore. Have very high tolerance to pain. I sit in my rocker recliner et rock et read, ect to keep my mind off the pain. Like a form of meditation you could say:) I do not like have to take meds unless absolutely have to. Take more vitamins then anything.
What are you currently taking then for your fibromyalgia?
I've been up to 120mg a day. So that may depend on your MD. But Cymbalta helped me for short time et only my 25% but that was better than nothing. Now it doesn't work for my fibro:( that's the bad thing about being on meds for soo long they eventually don't work for you anymore. Hope it keeps working for you. God bless.
