Has anyone had cupping done instead of a massage?

I had a chiropractor who started cupping on me. I came up and off that table!! For a person who has Fibro, cupping is torture! Don't let anyone come near you with cupping equipment. Some acupuncturists also perform cupping. I liked acupuncture but it didn't help me.

Hello everybody! I just heard about "cupping" for the 1st time when the Olympics were on in August when I saw it being done to Michael Phelps. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw those huge red "plunger" bumps all over him! There is no way in a million yrs. that I would ever subject my body to this procedure. Anyone that has FM & other similar ailment's that suffer from the pain as we girl's do, know that this would exacerbate our pain into us going "over the edge"!! I'd be laid up in severe pain & feel so sick for a pretty long stretch, but of course, each & everyone of us react differently to everything. I just know that it is NOT FOR ME, lol! Thanks for asking your question about "cupping" @A MyFibroTeam Member :)

I heard that cupping was not good for those with Fibro as it makes everything worse including starting a flare.

Yes, I have had cupping and would not ever have it done again! It is so painful and would not let the technician finish. She said the purpose was to break up scar tissue. Who would pay money to have yourself tortured?

Thanks for your answer. My therapist did it to my shoulder area yesterday. When she did it, it seemed fine. Later in the afternoon, yikes did it come back fast and hard!

I had someone try it on me during a physical therapy session. My therapist wanted to try pulling the muscles away to get the knots or spasms to relax instead of pushing on the areas or dry needling. It was excruciating!!! The burning pain it caused was unbearable.
