Yes, trauma is something that brings fibro to the surface. It can be many different traumas such as an accident, a illness, loss of a loved one, bad divorce, PTSD, abuse, assault, constant stress and so on. It is pretty much anything that causes a lot of stress and/or anxiety.
I always thought mine started after a very bad divorce from an abusive husband and it has gotten worse after other stressful situations like my recent cancer treatments.
But after I read an article about how doctors are starting to believe that you can develop it in early childhood and knowing I used to constantly complain to my mother about pain and she always said it was either growing pains or the weather. I can remember having severe chest pains that made it impossible to take a breath almost, a complaining of my back or legs or arms aching.
If it is true that children can have it, then mine may have started when I was 3, almost 4, I had German measles, followed by mumps, followed by chicken pox, followed by regular measles and finally the shingles all in about a 4 month period. I have to wonder is having that much upheaval on my immune system could have triggered it. I have had pain for as long as I can remember.
I have read that sometimes something like a car accident or a lengthy illness can , later on bring on a compromised immune system therefore leaving a person subject to a condition like Fibro. CFS, etc. I've had Fibro for about 17 years = I actually think mine was brought on by many years of stress at work , over time working, being nervous all the time & not taking care of myself. But it's just my opinion ~
My fibromyalgia didn't start until I got in a wreck. I was hit on my left side and that is where my fibro started at...not once did anyone ask me if I was in a car accident. But my foot doctor and the occupational therapist They told me it explains my Fibro and why OT told me that explains a lot now.
I've had fibro since 2015 they both just asked me this past year. Tells a lot doesn't it?
I've been in 11 car accidents (none my fault), had 8 surgeries, and raped multiple times...so lots of trauma! But I still believe that when I got an ecoli infection at the hospital that's what pushed me into full-blown FM. I think I had it before that but was young and strong so I could push on through it. Of course, nobody knew what it was in the 70s. A PT mentioned it to me in 1977, but the DO I was going to called it Myofacial Pain Syndrome. But yes, trauma is a common trigger.
I had some symptoms in Childhood, but basically I think it really hit after I had double pneumonia in 1991. I just never did get my energy back. Then all the aches and pains started. I began to have an irritable bladder, etc.
