Members shared mixed perspectives on whether fibromyalgia worsens with age, with many noting that while doctors say it doesn't progress, lived experience tells a different story, especially as other age-related conditions like arthritis and injuries interact with fibro symptoms. Several members emphasized practical strategies that have helped them manage pain and maintain quality of life, including trigger point injections, cognitive behavioral therapy, gentle yoga, staying active despite discomfort, and allowing themselves rest without guilt. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy and persistence in finding what works individually, acknowledging that fibro affects everyone differently and that some days will be harder than others regardless of effort.

So sorry you have to go threw this, fibromyalsa isn't on the top 100 diseases that Dr and Therapist really want to get involved in most don't even believe in it. So the more info you can get and arm yourself with the better off you will be. Best advice I ever got is it's OK to take a nap in the afternoon when you hurt. LoL have a good one

I do not care that MD's say it is not progressive!!! What do they know when half don't believe in it or they do not have it. I have read on this site that some ppl are in bed more than others, their husbands have had to quit work to help take care of them et their children....I do feel it does progress. Yes some days are what we call good day et others are bad. Just my opinion:)

Mine seems to be getting worse. Do I have better days than others? Yes. I do. But I have Severe Fibro. I have tried, exercise, staying active, physical therapy, pain meds, all kinds of meds and it does not fully help. So for me, I am trying to come to terms with the fact horrible pain, terrible Fibro Fog and may other symptoms are my life now. There is no cure or hope for a cure. Just got to ask my Lord to stay by me and keep me emotionally strong.

It's hard to say that fibro gets worse as we age. The doctors say no but they don't live in our bodies. What happens is that other things go wrong with our bodies such as artritis, injuries, other age related health issues and the fibro kicks in to play along. Usually they don't play together well. After a surgery you are told to rest, don't lift anything heavy, don't overtax the body. For me that is like tellimg me to give the fibro freedom to wreck havoc. I need to move often and with purpose in order to control the muscle pain. If like after my knee surgery, I'm told I can't walk on the treadmill, I will be in more pain because I don't have the release of daily moving a lot of my muscles in a free and easy way. Also as I am getting older I can't move as easily or as fast as I could when I was younger so that plays in the mix too. So not an easy answer to the question because depends on what happens in your life.

It doesn't get worse. It is where it is at for the rest of your life but there are ways to manage the pain with out pain killers that I have found help me. I wear my pain in my muscles. This I learned in the last year. So all the pain and suffering I went through my entire life was all stored in my muscles. I read somewhere that your muscles actually have memory. It stores memories of traumatic experiences. So if something like a cupboard slamming can cause me stress which turns into my muscles tightening up, which causes me pain. I have Myofascial Pain Syndrome as well, so the knots in my body get so tight, due to any stress, physical, mental or spiritual, where I will need some relief by either a gentle massage of the knot which doesn't work all that well. It hurts a lot. I now do Trigger Point Injection Therapy, where my Doctor puts a needle into the knot, where the knot then releases, relaxes and my pain is gone for about a week or maybe two at most. I then go back to do. I also see therapist for all the traumatic life memories, deal with everything mentally, emotionally and spiritually damaged there. I take medications to help with depression,(Cymbalta, low dose of Lyrica) pain, and my type 2 diabetes. I went to a pain clinic to learn about pain, tried their therapy classes there to see if would help lesson pain, didn't but the classes on pain really helped me understand pain. I do independent Cognitive Behavioural Therapy as well, helped me retrain my brain to interpret pain.
I hope this helped. Soft hugs my fibro friend.
