Lupus is an entirely different illness. It has almost same symptoms but with fibro. Your lab values doesn't show any abnormal values. With lupus there is labs that show your inflammation levels and it is a disease that worksworks against your immune system and can cause other problems that will eventually lead to death. Fibro is a disease with no known cause or cure. It affects the muscles tendons etc. and causes the body to tighten and cause extremely painful systems. It affects your nervous system nerve endings . There is meds. Message therapy but differences in treatment that is why it is difficult to tell each person varies depending on your own body and what works for you.. both illnesses is very painful and act in same manner so the only way to tell is through testing and lab values. I hope this helps some. Even doctors struggle with finding what is wrong due to so many same symptoms. So it takes a lot of testing and usually is diagnosed checking trigger points for pain and lab values differences. Best wishes to you either one is terrible to have . Hugs and much love to you.

I got diagnosed with Lupus 2 months after my fibro diagnosis. I have the redness on my cheeks but its more like a sunburn. I think the fibro makes me feel like crap everyday and the Lupus comes in like an episode that can last weeks at a time. I honestly dont know. I still need more tests since drs arent convinced its my only problems.

Lupus is an auto immune disease which effects the immune system. Fibro is not an auto immune disease which mostly effects the nervous system.

If you have or think you have either one the best thing to do is educate yourself with both. I was diagnosed with lupus and Hasimoto's in 2005. Had a bad flare in 2013 but a new rheumatologist said it wasn't lupus it was fibro. I was tested several times by different doctors including the Univerisity of Michigan and they all said lupus. Years later (different doctor) said its fibro. All I know is I'm miserable and the Cymbalta only helped my anxiety. Here are a few links about fibro and lupus. Like I said, read read read.....
