Carpal Tunnel
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome yesterday and want to know if it is the offshoot of fibro or just another pain for me to bear?

Sleeping with a splint has pretty much done away with my problems related to e carpal tunnel as well.

grandmab48: I agree that carpal tunnel is not necessarily connected to Fibromyalgia; I know many who have carpal tunnel but do not have Fibro. But I have learned that it is, as you stated a repetitive stress injury that is caused by any constant repetitive motion over time. Typing is a leading culprit, but I know people who work in factories who suffer from it due to repetitive hand movements.

Thanks, tatsgram923. I don't have that, but with the discussion, it seems people try the splints and surgery as a last resort. As a nurse, I always have seen people after surgery so my info was limited. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a good weekend.

Hi AnitaKraack, at this point I haven't done anything but I wear wrist splints to bed to try and stop my fingers from going to sleep. You know the needle and pins feeling , the splints prevent my wrists from bending and keep them in a fixed position. My daughter in law just had her's operated on in January and she swears that it worked. I'm too afraid of losing my mobility or sensation in that area because my hands are my living , so I won't go under the knife for this. Gentle hugs !

I don't think carpral tunnel syndrome and fibro are linked. I do have it in both wrists but mine came from doing artwork, fine needlepoint, crochet , tattooing and running a cash register for years. All these things take a toll on your hands and wrists. My carpral tunnel took a little longer to diagnose because the fibro pain as you know, makes everything hurt anyway !
