Members widely confirmed that gabapentin contributed to weight gain, with several sharing they put on anywhere from a few pounds to 15 pounds or more, and some experiencing frustrating water retention or swelling that made weight loss feel nearly impossible. Several members shared alternative medications and strategies, including switching to Gralise (an extended-release version taken once at night that helped one member lose the gained weight), noting that Lyrica caused even more weight gain or cognitive side effects, and mentioning Topamax as a potentially better option for weight management. A recurring theme was the difficult trade-off between finding a medication that effectively manages pain and dealing with unwanted side effects, leaving many members feeling stuck between relief and frustration.

Yes, I gained weight while on gabapentin for a relatively short time. I had to come off it in the end because I was getting such bad water retention in my legs plus various other side affects. I haven't been able to lose the weight yet!

I was on gabapentin for about a year and gained 15 pounds. My pain dr changes me to Gralise. It's an extended release gabapentin that you just take a large dose at night and have lost those 15 pounds thank goodness.

Gabapentin is known for ganing weight or keeping weight on. It is one of its side effects. Topamax and lyrica are better for losing weight

I am under gabapentin and find it hard to lose the weight the Dr wants. I was using lyrics at one time but gained much more weight that my body and limbs were swelled up.
