Members shared extensive advice for traveling with fibromyalgia, emphasizing the critical importance of building in rest days before departure, after arrival, and upon return home, with many noting that a week-long trip realistically requires 10-14 days when accounting for recovery time. Several members recommended practical strategies including packing well in advance to avoid stress, requesting wheelchair assistance or courtesy carts at airports to conserve energy, asking for aisle seats to allow frequent movement and stretching, taking anti-anxiety medication or melatonin for flights, staying hydrated, and ensuring all luggage has wheels. A recurring theme was the necessity of pacing yourself, listening to your body without guilt, planning sightseeing around daily naps, and accepting that fibromyalgia requires significant modifications to travel plans, but that with careful preparation and self-compassion, meaningful trips to see loved ones are still possible and worthwhile.

I usually plan my first day were I'm going as rest day and make no plans for 2 days after I return. Make sure I have a daily planer of your meds and always check twice that I you have correct amour for X days. I take at least 1 HR naps during the day and plan sightseeing around that, with the exception of NY and that was a hard trip. I sometimes take clonipin on flight for 2 or 3 HR trip. I have traveled out West to dude ranch twice. It was fun but had my limitations. U canEnjoy travel -- but always look out for fatigue. U can enjoy travel if u plan for rest time and a good nite sleep!!

Even if I'm going to a wedding I have to go the day before and rest up in a hotel. Usually the one that wedding is in, then the day of wedding I can go up to room for a rest. I maybe have to do this three or four times that day. Then stay that night and go home the next day and have another rest day the next day before I can get back to what has become "normal" life for me.

In general with fibro it comes down to pacing ourselves and planning
To keep our energy levels good and pain manageable if possible

In airports sometimes you may have a long walk and fast one if changing plane. Ask if you could get a courtesy ride to your gate or early boarding ahead of departure date.
I recommend chewing gum on take offs and landings it helps ear pressure low dose anti anxiety pills if you need them. But plan ahead pace yourself. Good luck. Hugs

Oh good Lord !!!!!! The flight alone sounds daunting. Especially with your pets. As for your layover and pets also try to plan ahead if you could get something from tour doctor if needed or just tell them you need help. But try to do it ahead of time.

Last time I flew changed planes 2xs And I'm fortunate so far with walking very fast really check with your airlines customer services

Kinda jealous Alaska is beautiful. But keep warm , sunglasses handy if light bothers you and if cold kicks up your fibromyalgia look for hunters gear that you can keep warm outside
The journey may be tricky but kick it in the but and have a great time up there
Hugs to u and your meows

Pack ahead of time so you aren't stressing over forgetting something. I can never sleep while flying or read because I get (sea sick) lol. I also have to have an isle seat because I have a weak bladder and I try not to drink but with all my meds I get dry mouth so bad and none of that crap they advertise works on dry mouth, at least not on mine.
