Savella
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I recently lost my health insurance, and I can no longer afford my Savella. It has seemed to help better than anything else I've tried. I have been on 100

mg
twice a day and can not get assistance quick enough and a coupon will only cover half the cost. It is still $250 and a weeks worth is $76 . I am going to come off of it quickly. Has anyone had any effects going cold turkey off of it? I've tried to get samples and everything. I am also off my pain meds because I cannot go to the dr.

I don't know if this will help or not, but my dad gets his meds through Medicare. Once he uses so much of his own money the drug company will help him out with his meds sometimes free. Maybe try getting online it never hurts to ask. What kind of medicine is it?

Please have your doctor wean you off slowly. You can get serotonin syndrome from stopping abruptly. It can be life threatening ! Once your brain is used to having serotonin at your high level you will start to flood your brain with serotonin when it can't find it any more. Same symptoms of taking too much serotonin I combined medications. I ended up in the emergency room 2 weeks ago after being on both Savella and Zoloft at the same time. My rhuematologist who prescribed it and my PCP didnt catch the warning signs I was giving them. Watch for increase heart rate, high blood pressure, muscle rigidity, fever, confusion, dizziness. Get to emergency because you can go into coma. It was a very frightening experience for me. Please look up the symptoms of serotonin syndrome / withdrawal so you know what to look for. I hate that you can't afford to continue taking it. So far for me it's the only med that's effective.

This is awful to read... I'm so sorry
It makes me feel guilty that I moan about how useless our doctors are, but at least I never ever have to worry about money & doctors & Meds.
Makes me feel more grateful we have the NHS here. Xxxx

@A MyFibroTeam Member. Please speak to you prescribing doctor before you stop taking this medication. See my post above with how I ended recently up in the Emergency room. You can go into coma by stopping this medication abruptly. Read about serotonin syndrome and be aware of the signs to watch for. If it's too expensive consider asking doctor to prescribe a cheaper SNRI like Prozac so you won't have serotonin withdrawal. Then you can wean off slowly. I'm seriously worried about you!
