Pain Medication For Fibromyalgia
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am going to a pain specialist on Friday and I really don't want to go in there without getting results. I have tried EVERYTHING so this is basically my last straw. I was just wondering if any of you have had any relief with pain medications and if so which ones? I am only asking because I read that pain medications don't work on fibromyalgia.

We often have muscle pain, or myofascial pain, along with our fibro pain that makes it much worse. The pain meds work well for that. There are so many. NSAIDs like naproxen, Advil,
Ketorolac, diclofenac, muscle relaxers like FLEXERIL. Mixed NSAID Creams with any or all
Of the oral NSAIDs described above, also with ketamine. Low dose naltrexone, which is really helpful to me and has few, if any, side effects. Lidocaine injections and infusions, Botox injections, Steroid injections for local pain areas and headaches. Gentle exercise as @A MyFibroTeam Member mentioned. Gabapentin works great for my neuralgia. Antidepressants in low doses can be very helpful for fibro pain, too many to list but I'm sure your pain doctor can come up with a few you haven't tried. Besides lyrica, savella and cymbalta. You'd
Be amazed. I thought I'd tried everything too but not yet apparently as my doctors keep on trying new ones on me. Are you getting enough sleep? That could be enhancing your pain. Melatonin and L-Theanine are good for sleep. As are many of the antidepressants. B12, iron and magnesium malate (not citrate) can help with pain. Medicinal marijuana, if it's
Legal where you are. There are probably other things, I just can't remember or haven't tried them. Best of luck hon!

Zanaflex is also a good muscle relaxer. If your pain clinic is anything like mine they don't like narcotic pain meds... I just went and they signed me up for aquatic therapy and lidocaine infusions and are going to wean me off my Percocet.

I've been on quite a few and depending on for which pain I've found relief. Nothing works 100% for FM. I tried them all before Lyrica and finally found some relief but I can only tolerate a low dose. Cymbalta was awful and I was on a high dose of Savella and a a very high dose of neurotin with very little relief. I do use a narcotic for the herniated discs in my back and I'm going through a time right now because they're changing them on me because they stopped working after being on the same one for several years. As a nurse, I check and recheck side effects and contraindications and this time they threw one at me before I had the chance to check at what they were giving me until my husband brought it home. Grrrr I'm not happy and my meds are expensive. One tip I'd give you is to start with a low dose of whatever you're given. Coyote1284 has 3 safe meds you could try at low doses or try Lyrica in place of the gabapentin. Both are gaba meds. Flexeril or diazepam are good muscle relaxers. Let us know how it goes.

I take gabepentin which blocks nerves, flexeril for muscle relaxer, and Norco for pain reliever.

I haven't really gone to one yet but what I try doesn't get rid of it but it makes it tolerable. I do Curamin extra strength and IbuProfen. Lyrica didn't work for me. It made me more agitated and depressed and didn't work enough to be worth it. I was afraid if I added to the dose it would be even worse. That's all I've been given so far is Lyrica.
