So my husband and I are finally going on our honeymoon after being married 12 years tomorrow. We leave March 1st for seven nights and we are going to Mexico. I'm really worried about getting sick or having a major flare. I was dx with fibro and an auto immune that they are not certain of which sort. My dr did all the labs, Mri of head, all sorts of X-rays. Everything was in normal range except Ana was positive and cbc was off. But she put me on a trial taper of steroids starting at 30 and am… read more

Members offered practical advice for traveling to Mexico with fibromyalgia and an autoimmune condition, with the most consistent guidance being to pace yourself carefully, schedule rest periods between activities, stay hydrated, and plan events around your best times of day while accepting that some overexertion may be unavoidable. Several members strongly recommended consulting a pharmacist before drinking alcohol with medications, noting that one or two drinks spaced throughout the day might be okay but caution is essential given the medication list. A recurring theme was giving yourself grace to enjoy the honeymoon even if it means not doing everything a healthy person could, with many emphasizing that the experience is worth some temporary setback.

Regarding Meds and drinking I would suggest you speak with your pharmacist as many ends should not be mixed with alcohol. Just relax and do activities based on how you feel, but make sure you have rest periods regardless. My husband knows me better than myself sometimes and will suggest a nap based on my behavior. If doing excursions, do light activity and rest around excursion . Just enjoy yourself and don't overdo it. I found flight days the worst as busy ++ and not able to relax when needed. Also take Meds with you for pain , anxiety etc.

Just rest when you can and try to drink plenty of fluids. Keep your food intake up and I can't emphasize the rest enough. Take your time checking things out and don't do too much in one day

It is trickier travelling with fibro but it's possible. I made a plan with my husband based on my abilities. The first couple of days out I Could barely make dinner due to jet lag (we went to Portugal), so be a little careful when you first get there. Also, schedule events for your best times if possible and schedule in breaks for yourself. Try to watch how much you're walking. If you are staying in an all inclusive that will be helpful for you. You will probably still overdue it, but sometimes we have to give up a little health to enjoy our vacation. I definitely overdid it and paid for it when I got back but it was sooo worth it.

Sorry my phone froze up before I finished. Anyways i wondered if anyone else has been able to travel and keep themselves healthy. It makes me so mad that we can finally take our trip but I can't do it as a normal person. Not to mention I'm supposed to be careful in the sun while taking plaquenil. I have been tanning a few times since I started it but not for the entire time as usual because I have noticed some sensitivity.
