I am on amitriptyline 35mg at night, I haven't seen any change in my pain but it sure helps me sleep better. For years I took desiprimine for depression and it was an excellent drug but it had one nasty side effect and that was profuse sweating. I would drip with sweat any time I did anything strenuous. I actually had the opposite experience than Reneejt I actually lost weight and felt great.

The Dr said I'm less likely to have side effects on nortriptyline then amitriptyline. I hope he's right.

Sorry, I probably shouldn't have said that. My daughter has Graves disease. Now she is hypo after having her thyroid destroyed. She really struggles, with her weight now & severe exhaustion. From one extreme to the other for her. You could try it for a few month to see how it affects you. You shouldn't gain anything in that short a time. Good luck!

I have not taken it for pain but many years ago I was put on imipramine for depression. It worked & I didn't have much pain back then. The Dr. attributed it to the drug. One bad side affect is weight gain. Lots of it. They are tricyclic antidepressants that are used for pain also. Another one is amatriptyline(sp)(and had a bad reaction to this one) I refuse to go back on those. Hope this helps . Just know that everybody is different too. Hugs.
