Members discussed POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), with many discovering that symptoms they attributed to fibromyalgia, such as racing pulse, shakiness, blacking out upon standing, excessive sweating, and shortness of breath, were actually signs of POTS requiring a separate diagnosis from a cardiologist. Several members shared helpful resources from the Dysautonomia International website and practical management strategies including Florinef medication, magnesium and calcium supplements, specialized exercise plans for POTS patients, and compression stockings paired with shower chairs to prevent symptoms from worsening during daily activities. A recurring theme was the relief of finally receiving an accurate diagnosis after years of misattributed symptoms, along with members offering mutual support and information-sharing to help each other navigate testing and treatment options.

I recently was diagnosed with POTS and was told to use compression stockings and to be careful in the shower because POTS symptoms can get worse showering.

1) how do you pick the right stockings? I see them in different strengths....mild, firm, etc
2) anyone have trouble showering? I try to use a shower chair when I can but it's not always possible.

I sure do! In fact, after getting on Florinef (after trying the non medication route for years), and taking magnesium and calcium supplements and implementing the exercise plan for PoTS patients, I feel a ton better than I have in years!!!! I was grateful to be diagnosed with pots after so many years of telling my cardiologist I black out several times a day!
