I want to try to tapper off cymbalta because I swear it is starting to give me side effects and I am trying to not have to take so many drugs. I have been on it for a little over a year, 120mg a day, my dr is dropping me go 90mg. She says I won't have withdrawal but I'm nervous. Any one have any advice?

If you have a hard time with decreasing by 30 mg, you can get smaller doses by going to a compounding pharmacy. (If there is one in your area). They can make smaller doses of Cymbalta or pretty much any med. I called one in my city just out of curiosity for when I decide to go off it after reading all the horror stories. I have reduced from 60 to 30 mg before and had no withdrawal symptoms so I believe everyone is different. I have discontinued 3 different antidepressants before without any problems. One of them was Pristiq which is said to be horrible too. Good luck, hope it goes well.
I was taking Cymbalta. It was really messing with my head. So i detoxed off of it. I thought i was going to die. For real. It was total hell getting off that stuff. Never again. I take Elavil at bedtime and i am doing good with that. That is all that I take for my fibro. I also have to take other meds for thyroid, severe panic attacks that require hospital and meds for my totally messed up back. Fibro gets me down bad when the weather changes or if i have done to much work outside. Then it is lay in bed and wanna scream for a few days.
According to my doctor 30 mg is a typical internal of increase but is much more conservative on decreases. That being said, Cymbalta is only available in 30 mg doses. So I would say it needs to be over an extended amount of time. I disagree there not being side-effects. My experience, no matter how conservative the taper, anti-depressants have always caused withdrawal symptoms for me. I usually experience my body not regulating temperature (I'm too hot or too cold), dizziness, restlessness and some problems sleeping. I hope you are successful without these symptoms.
@A MyFibroTeam Member magnesium is really good for the muscles. It has helped me a lot with muscle cramps. I also take general female endocrine supplements and they have worked wonders
@A MyFibroTeam Member Please give as an update on how it goes! I'm also thinking about discontinuing Cymbalta although I'm only taking 60mg. I have been on it for close to three years, I think, but I want to try to be on fewer medications. I'm going to try finding the right combination of supplements and herbal remedies.
