Members responded to concerns about significant weight gain from gabapentin and pregabalin by sharing their own medication journeys and alternative options that worked better for them. Several members found relief with Cymbalta (duloxetine), reporting reduced pain without weight gain or even weight loss, while others mentioned Tramadol, Nortriptyline, Lamictal, and Topamax as alternatives, with one member noting that Topamax unexpectedly helped eliminate soda cravings. A recurring theme was that medication responses vary greatly from person to person, and members encouraged advocating with doctors for options where weight gain is not a common side effect.

I was on paxil, gabapentin, nortrypriline, and gained 80 pounds in a year. I have was put on cymbalta and lamictal about 5 months ago. For me that combo does seem to take edge off. Even though it was prescribed for my depression and anxiety. Thankfully no weight gain! I have actually lost 10 pounds. I made sure I asked for something that weight gain is NOT a side effect.

I take cymbalta. It helps immensely with the pain and I've lost weight while on it.

I have gained 35 lbs during the first year of taking Cymblata. I did not gain one ounce while taking Gabapentin for 3 months.
