Headaches

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Salem, VA

For the last 3 weeks I have had a bad headache/migraine. Doing research I found headaches are a symptom of fibro. I have been taking ibuprofen and alternating Tylenol every 6 hours. Is there anyone else who suffers with headaches and what do you take to stop them? Thanks, Lynda

Members shared a wide range of strategies for managing the persistent headaches and migraines common with fibromyalgia, with many finding relief through prescription medications like Topamax, Rizatriptan, and Maxalt, while others recommended over-the-counter options such as Excedrin Migraine, which several members praised as effective when caught early. Practical non-medication approaches were frequently mentioned, including reducing screen time and brightness to ease light sensitivity, using ice packs on the neck and forehead, taking hot baths with Epsom salts, practicing gentle yoga and stretching to release muscle tension, and resting in dark rooms with fans or cool air. A recurring theme was the importance of identifying personal triggers like certain foods, wine, chocolate, or stress, being cautious with long-term ibuprofen use due to potential stomach and hearing damage, and working closely with doctors to find the right combination of treatments that fit individual needs and existing medications.

LyndaPruettAkers Have you tried Excedrin Migraine? I've had this work for me with a migraine if I could catch it before it gets out of hand. I had to go on a prescription when the over the counter stuff quit working and they became more frequent and more intense. I use to have migraines that came 3 or more times a week that were so intense I couldn't stand them. I would rather beat my head against a brick wall than endure the pain of them. I had all the problems that came with a migraine too... nausea/vomiting, sensitivity to light & sound, it was awful. This was about 3 years ago, and my doctor put me on Topamax to control them. I can honestly say, that medication was like a miracle to me. I still take it, and I might still get a migraine from time to time, but never as often or with the intensity of the ones I use to have. Good luck, I hope you get this taken care of... find something that works. Hugs

I can sympathise with you I have continuous headaches they subside but never entirely go all down to a virus nearly 18 yrs ago I'm on topiramate twice a day then backed up with paracetamol and codeine I unfortunately can't take anti inflammatory tablets as my ibs really plays up and some pain meds I'm allergic too but I try lavender heat pillow and relaxation music that helps especially to get me to relax my neck so it eases and I can sleep also some gentle stretching exercises of the neck muscles can help try yoga I was surprised just how tense my body is in flare ups so I'm trying to do gentle stretching and relaxation too good luck and gentle hugs to you and all xxxx

When I get migraines I have to go to bed in a dark room and a fan blowing on low. I also take Phenegan because I get really sick. I also found that wine or wine coolers, nuts, and chocolates cause me headaches too. I hope this helps. Soft hugs

I started with headaches 1 ago and the tylenol and ibuprofen didn't help so I started on Excedrin migraine. I usually take one and its go but if I am really stressed and get a headache I have to take 2 and it goes away. Von average I may have a headache once or twice a week.
