I have a dream of working with children, either in a nursery or in a school. Has anyone with fibro been successful in managing a job in childcare?
I think if you put your mind into it and really want it, you can do it.
Just communicate with the school and or nursery so that less physical activities you could do on a bad day x
I'm a first grade teacher, so working with young kids is physically exhausting. I then come home to my own two kids ages 9 and 10. Luckily, I can rest a lot...sleep over the weekend w my hubby's help w kids. On the weekends I get up around noon-2. I recharge and am ready for the next week. I'm learning to say NO to extra parent volunteering for things and trying to pace myself. If I didn't get rest on the wknd I wouldn't be able to work full time as a teacher!
I worked in a high school for 24 yrs. as a costodian .Hard work but kept me active
I went to college for early childhood education. Student teaching took too much energy from me and I couldn't handle it anymore. I was constantly in pain, but I also wasn't diagnosed yet or on medication. I am currently a youth social worker and I love it. I do home and school visits. I have my own office where I can rest if I need to and I build my own schedule. This job works so great with my fibromyalgia. I still care for kids, but in a different way.
I worked with 2nd grade. Only to help the readers that were behind and I loved it. But it was only for a few days a week and I could manage that.
