Members responded with deep concern to someone whose partner dismisses their fatigue and pain, alternating between loving support and cruel control over basic needs like daytime sleep. Several members strongly urged the poster to recognize potential signs of an abusive relationship, with some sharing their own painful experiences of being trapped in controlling partnerships or abandoned by spouses who didn't understand chronic illness. A recurring theme was the importance of prioritizing one's own health and safety, with practical suggestions including bringing the partner to medical appointments so doctors can explain the conditions directly, seeking couples counseling to address both partners' mental health needs, and seriously reconsidering whether the relationship is truly supportive or harmful.

I hear you...my husband is my singular support through my condition. I've tried passing on emails that explain fibro and challenges we face each and everyday but find no-one really wants to hear you...especially family. Stay United with a fellow fibro mate we understand

Get the hell out of there as nobody has the right to stop you sleeping in the afternoon if that is what you need to do. You are ill with a known problem so find someone that will understand this and will support you through every step of your fight ahead. Next time you see your specialist take him with you so he can hear what is being said and hopefully he may come round and understand

Just my opinion: Paula, It sounds like he was a "control freak." Don't blame yourself. If he'd been any loving, understanding person, he would have had compassion. A lot of people have issues that they hide, wearing a mask of disguise. When someone else "comes into their life," they use the other individual to cover up their own problems. You're okay, Paula. And always remember that you are not alone. **You have us.

Chelsea,

I don't care if he reads this. GET AWAY FROM THAT CONTROL FREAK! He will NEVER change! How do I know? Almost 34 years of "marriage." And I CAN'T get out! He controls ALL the finances. I had my disability SS checks stopped when marrying this person. Even could be reading this on his computer. He will not even go with me to church. RUN, Chelsea! Find a safe place to go. If too weak, keep trying until you find someone who WILL help you get away safely. You DO NOT deserve being treated like this.
I also have epilepsy, which means I have no money for pills. Employment? Forget it. Now Fibromyalgia since 1998?! Chelsea, you are NOT "nerves of steel." Get Away From That ASSHOLE--PLEASE!!!

Maybe your doctor could suggest a support group/counselling that you could both attend..you say he has mental health problems are they under control? are you taking anything to help with stress or to help you sleep...also I don't really know your situation so if I've read it wrong am sorry if I offend you..but he maybe sounds a little controlling it's upto you if you wish to sleep :) do you have a close friend you could maybe confide in x
