I went to the gym that I joined last week for a one hour Tai Chi/Qui Qong/stretching class. . I really enjoyed it but now I'm exhausted. I wanted to try out the treadmill today also but no can do.

Tomorrow I go to Old Ladies' Zumba (Zumba Gold). I really hope I can do this. I don't want to get discouraged. Any gym goers out there? What is your experience with it? I don't want my pain level/fatigue increased.

Members rallied around someone navigating their first gym experiences with fibromyalgia, celebrating small victories like enjoying Tai Chi and Zumba Gold while validating fears about increased pain and fatigue. Several members emphasized the crucial 50 to 60 percent energy rule, advising short walks, aqua therapy, and giving yourself permission to sit out exercises or stop early rather than pushing through and creating setbacks that take days to recover from. A recurring theme was grief over lost fitness, the stress of extra weight, and the importance of going at your own pace without guilt, with many finding that low-impact options like swimming, elliptical machines, and supportive group classes offer both physical benefit and emotional community.

Don't be afraid to Sit out of some of the exercises, build up gradually, the class may be an hour long but you do not have to do the whole hour, some days you can do more and other days you can decide to do less. Do it at your own pace.

I have found that extra weight stresses me out psychologically and stress adds to the fibro symptoms.

It's bad enough growing older, but growing older and heavier plus more tired and more painful adds so much stress to the mix!

I have spinning at 9:15 today. Nervous...........Wish me luck.

I am so scared that I have made a huge mistake in joining this gym. I am not giving up tho! I'm really hurting now and then my husband says to me "that's because you're not used to doing anything but sitting at that computer." Gee thanx, as I do Church work, work part time for my two sons (at home), sell stuff on Ebay, do what I can around the house. All while dragging myself through the day like a 500 lb boulder.
Sorry, I am really sensitive tonight...didn't mean to rant.

Be caaaaaaareful.......I've been down that road of doing as much exercise as I could not realizing that I was digging a hole for myself. The golden rule of exercise for fibro/CF is never use more than 50 to 60 percent of the energy that you have. We all make mistakes and this takes some trial and error...but if you have to recover from the exercise you did and it's taking hours, days etc. You have violated this very useful rule.

Usually a short walk is very good for us....if you feel more pain and or fatigue after that walk or class, you have done too much.

When I finally found a Dr. who understood about fibro/cf.....he told me I had too stop all exercise/ stretching for the time being....I had dug a big hole with all my exercise trying to get better! Later as I got a little better, I started with a 3 minute walk.....and increased...

I'm good just walking with my family and dogs. No pressure. No guilt if I don't make it to gym. I also have Xbox Zumba and I can make up my own dance list depending on how much energy I have.
