Has anyone else lost most of their friends after becoming sick?

Yes I have but I also discovered who my true friends are and cherish their friendships more than ever now
my favorite quote is " those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter " I would rather have a few true friends than many phoney friends . Looks to me like there are many good friends on this site who do truly care

I guess I have been lucky in that I do still have friends. I have never had loads of friends, I have a small select group of friends. I know the value of friendship as my best friend of 12 years died at the age of 29. I try to make the effort to keep in touch with them as I know its important ,I even will make a note of when I have phoned them etc in my diary as it is so easy being I'll to suddenly realise that you haven't been in contact for several weeks. I have also made new friends since becoming ill. I joined a walking for health club and this is where I met them. And we have met up outside of the walking club for days out, meals, coffee etc. When I became ill the relationship I was in at the time ended. But I have now met some one else and its going well. Before I became ill I considered my work colleagues to be friends but unfortunately they all seemed to turn on me , this was really upsetting to me so I can understand how you feel. I would say that there is hope and you can and will make new friends in time x

Yes I have. I've had one friend in particular for over 35 years. We met when we were 4. She stopped calling after a while because I was too sick in the beginning to meet up for dinner, a movie or even a coffee. The last time we spoke was in March and I told her how ill I was, plus our company was going bankrupt. She recently texted me telling me how busy she's been at work and couldn't call from the job she was doing. Now that she has a different position she can talk on the phone. I guess she couldn't be bothered to take time from her evenings or weekend to call and check in. I see pics on Facebook of her going out drinking with her friends. I'm so disappointed that she couldn't care enough to even spare 10 minutes to call me for 6 months. I don't want to even text her back at this point.

Yes. Mostly because they don't get it.

Thank you everyone for your answers. It has been very tough dealing with the loss of the people I thought cared for me.
