My hair loss is emotionally damaging. I wake up to hair all over pillows, fills shower drains and hair brushes. It's thinned out a lot but so far only I can notice it. (It isn't patchy yet)

Very sensitive scalp- pain and itching

I've been told the hair loss is tellogen effluvium due to the stress fibro and being sick has put on my body

Has anyone else had this?

Would shaving it help the pain?

I know emotionally, shaving it would mean I don't have to watch my hair fall out and shed… read more

Members connected over the challenging question of whether fibromyalgia causes scalp pain, itching, and hair loss, with many sharing that they experience similar symptoms including tender scalps that hurt to brush, significant shedding, thinning hair, and intense itching that sometimes feels like insects crawling on the skin. Several members offered practical suggestions, including checking ferritin levels (which should be between 70-100 for healthy hair growth), taking Biotin 5000 mcg twice daily to help regrow hair, using Benadryl or antihistamines for itching relief, and consulting a dermatologist for professional guidance. A recurring theme was the emotional toll of watching hair fall out and the frustration of others dismissing the idea of shaving it, with members offering solidarity and understanding that the decision is deeply personal and not defined by outdated notions of femininity.

My hair sheds alot, but it's so thick, I would have to lose a ton! My scalp does it, but I itch all over at times. It's so horrible that if feels like tiny insects crawling on me, and it's not meds causing it. I heard there is a such thing as Fibro-itch.

@SheilaFarmer I hear ya....it is awful...drives me nuts. I think that many foods can cause histamine Intollerence...and anti-histamines only make it worse. I need to walk around the house(because I cannot lay still in bed) for 3-4 hours until the itching stops. It is so viscous!!!

It happens sometimes right after I take a bath, but then I don't think it has to do with the Fibro.
