Fibro Meds?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Why do drs insist on using so many " psych" meds that cause weight gain in the treatment of fibro? Do they not realize how hard tbis is on our already stressed physical condition not to mention our emotional well being? And why are they not usi g fda approved fibro meds specifically is it cause we cant afcord them ? Thats just BS if u ask me cause if we wete cancer pt we would be treated appropriatly.

Dear Sammi & Forsaken Angel. Yes, I agree that many medicines have different uses. I agree that doctors probably know what they are doing. However, there are limited treatments that doctor have at their disposal to use for fibro. One doctor told my doctor that she did not want fibro referrals because she did not have good treatment for them and she was in overload with fibro patients. I would not want to be a doctor and have to treat fibro. patients because of lack of established treatments.

The doctor who treats my husband for heart disease has more choices for treatment such as meds, diet, etc. She can keep his heart disease under control, unlike my illness. In fact, I have the same doctor as my husband (an excellent doctor) and she verbalizes frustration with having to design treatment regiments for me. I understand the medical community's frustration with our illness due to lack of treatment protocols.
Hopefully, in 50 years, fibro. patients will not have to experience the difficulties that we are experiencing today.

Many medications have several differant uses. For example some anti depressant drugs are widely used for pain relief in patients that do not have depression.

Amen to your comment.! This illess is not psychological in my belief .I do think it's a nerological disorder in whereas the brain is misfiring signals causing hypersensitivity to touch vision hearing and .pain .anything and everything involving nerves.but the pshcycological part ( depression withdrawal etc is secondary to the primary illness the fibro.
