Do People Make You Feel Like It's All In Your Head?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I feel like people are constantly making me question if my fibro is real or if it's all just in my head. Whether it's doctors, friends or just general people I interact with, they all say things or make comments that imply I should just suck it up and get over it. At first I always get a bit defensive, I never say it to them but I always think they don't know what they're talking about so I shrug it off but then over the next few days I just keep thinking about it more and more and wonder if… read more

People don't believe what they cannot see or understand. Doctors don't understand it either and that's where the problem starts. They are like scientists, if they can't see, touch, or smell it then it cannot be true. We need to be our own advocate. Keep talking until someone starts to listen. Do not give up. Keep in mind that our illness is invisible. We are called "warriors" for a reason. Know that you are not alone here on this site. There isn't a person alive who would make up this kind of pain an other medical illnesses that develop in addition to fibromyalgia. I hope this helps. Sending gentle hugs.

Whoever asked this original question, please know that
1- you DID NOT bring this on yourself
2- you are just as cut out to be in the
'real world' as anyone else!!!
3- most of us suffer from depression and you need to get some help with that.
Anyone else who is as tired as we are. for no obvious reason, or who hurts as much as we do would be depressed also.
3- You are NOT WEAKER than the rest of society-- you are just EXHAUSTED, also for no apparent reason. Please get some antipressants from your doctor! Feeling the way you do is really dangerous!! for YOU!?!
I take Cymbalta, because my Dr had some Fibromyalgia Patients tell her that it seemed to help with their pain. And it does mine too.

Yes, unfortunately, this is something common and every day for fibro sufferers, I use the that term confidently, because it is suffering. Medical professionals throw meds at you or believe you are just depressed or stressed with your lifestyle or both. How I handle this is I know KNOW its not in my head, I smile and I am tolerant and I search and research for what will work. This works today but not tomorrow, it is a marathon and each day if different.

I fell that way too. My hubby says the same things to me and I start doubting my body. I'll think about it for a while and then I start feeling my pain...hands, feet, back, neck, shoulders, jaws, it all hurts! How can we make up this kind of pain? It goes from a dull ache to a sharp stabbing pain! It even jumps around!

I often felt they way you feel before I was finally diagnosis. I was 14 doctors who could never figure it out and it's a long story. I was working a 40 hour plus job. I have lost a lot of friends, but i have three fingers that I can count on no matter what happens in my life. By joining this website has encouraged me as well. That we are not alone and there are others out there just like us that truly understand. I for one am one of them. I worked up still the age of 50 and had to quit my job. Sometimes it can be a depressing and lonely road, but with the right people you can have new friends and a lot of support.
