I started taking Claritin a couple of years before my diagnosis due to pollen allergies, but now find if I don't take it everyday, within 48 hours my entire body it itching as if I'm having a serious allergic reaction. Aren't malfunctioning nerves fun?

One of your medications could be causing the itchiness. For me, pain pills cause me to be itchy all over. If it's lacking an actual rash, Benadryl or a non-drowsy antihistamine may work. If you have a rash, I would get it checked first before treating with meds.

One more thing to consider – if the itching began closely after starting a new medication, or after going through some kind of procedure using a local anesthetic, you could be experiencing an allergic reaction. Most drug allergy reactions appear within 24 hours of the first dose. Allergic reactions to injectable lidocaine (any of its derivatives) can take up to 72 hours to appear. The reaction is not to the lidocaine (and its derivatives) itself, but to the additives to stabilize it in its liquid form.
