I was diagnosed with celiac disease in December 2014 and thus had to switch to a gluten-free diet and the changes I have seen in my body, mind, personality, etc. have been amazing!

Members shared overwhelmingly positive experiences with gluten-free diets, particularly those diagnosed with celiac disease or gluten intolerance, reporting dramatic improvements in pain, fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, anxiety, and depression. Several members explained that gluten can trigger over 300 symptoms and particularly affects those with autoimmune conditions like fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis, with one member noting they went from years of constant flares to only three flares in months after eliminating gluten completely. A recurring theme was encouragement to try a strict gluten-free diet for at least three months to assess personal benefits, with members offering support and emphasizing that improvements may start within weeks but continue to build over time.

Victoria, being as I have celiac disease I don't have a choice because eating gluten-free is the only way to heal your body. But, with that said, I have seen other benefits from it for my fibro that were not expected.

I have given up gluten and now dairy too. And yea it seems to make a difference. My daughter says it all the hormones in the milk that made me more ill.

Hi Shell! What a great question!!

I have honestly gone from a flare that seemed to have lasted years to nearly no symptoms at all. I am still affected if I get sick, changes in barometric pressure (storms), get highly stressed, etc BUT Since Dec 2014 I have ONLY had 3 flares, 2 of which were after consuming gluten by accident and 1 brought on by a severe change in weather and storms. After I quit gluten, I started noticing changes after about a month but they were small. as time has gone on they have continued to improve! No more muscle pain, hardly any joint pain, my stomach and intestinal issues have turned to normal function, no more GERD/heartburn, my gallbladder issues are much improved. I am sleeping better, thus less fatigue. I am much more clear-headed and much less forgetful. I have gone from taking anxiety medication 3 times a day to only when needed (which hasn't been often). My depression is much improved. My overall Affect is a 180. People I barely know are coming up to me saying I look/act like a completely different person than I did for 3 years prior. They tell me I glow and they love seeing my "wonderful spirit lifting" smile again. Hey there,

Thanks for the great info. : ) And so glad you are feeling better!

I had a few questions. When did you start to feel better and how are your pain and fibro symptoms now? Would you say there are gone completely?

I am doing paleo to help with the fibro and wondering when I may start to see improvements. They thought I had celiac but by that time I was off the gluten and did not want to consume it just to get the test.

Just looking for some hope,

Shell

A lot of people are not aware that gluten causes so many issues in people with an autoimmune disease. Gluten causes gastrointestinal issues, brain fog, confusion, increased depression and anxiety, muscular pain, join pain and inflammation, fatigue, sleep issues..........I could go on but there are over 300 symptoms connected to gluten!!! This article comes directly from the University of Chicago. Yes it says symptoms of celiac disease, but it has been proven that gluten has direct effects on those with Fibro as well. check out this link. you may find you have more symptoms than you realize that are connected to gluten.
