I'm having a hard time tolerating Cymbalta. It seems to increase pain and tension for me. I feel like I should try switching to another one. Has anyone else switched for Cymbalta to another one and felt better? I have read that Prozac can help. Thanks.

Members shared mixed experiences switching from Cymbalta for fibromyalgia, with several describing severe side effects including increased depression, suicidal thoughts, irritability, and worsened pain, while a few found it helpful for burning sensations or used it successfully in combination with other medications. Many members found relief with alternative antidepressants including Zoloft, Lexapro, amitriptyline, and mirtazapine, often combined with medications like Lyrica or Savella, though the consistent message was that finding the right medication requires patience and trial-and-error since everyone responds differently. A recurring theme was the importance of working closely with a doctor when switching or stopping medications, tapering off carefully to avoid withdrawal effects, and not giving up hope even after multiple unsuccessful attempts.

@A MyFibroTeam Member... I went straight into the Zoloft but the pharmacist suggested that I taper into it. I had already been on Zoloft before... I didn't have any weird side effects

I became very depressed and suicidal on Cymbalta. It messed with my mind, really badly. To the point where I thought I was losing my mind. It did not help with my pain or help any of my other medications work better (like I was told it would.) I felt like it was poisoning me. I took myself off of it. Which isn't recommended to do without talking to your doctor. I was just so depressed I didn't care what the side effects were of taking myself off it. Turns out, within three days, I was perfectly fine and in my right mind again.

@A MyFibroTeam Member I take the Zoloft along with Lyrica the combination works well for me although there are many days that nothing seems to work. This is where I try to find other alternatives to deal with the pain and for the anxiety I am in an excellent group that is teaching me different coping skills to deal with it so hopefully this will be an added benefit.
