Which Is The Best Specialist To Visit.
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Which is the best specialist to visit. I have been to two Rheumatologists and have had no luck. Both seem to be not very interested. Not sure if it is that they now they can't help - who knows? So tried of feeling like a test dummy. I have noted that many off you speak about visiting a Neurologist - what do they do different?

Ive been referred to pain clinic and had first appointment 2 weeks ago. The specialist there was amazing. So knowledgeable and not patronising. She helped both me and my husband understand things and sent instructions about medication and extra support back to gp. She has referred me for acupuncture and said she will work with me until we find something to help me. Very reassuring for me and hubby. Would definately recommend pain clinic intervention. X hope it works out for u, xx

I have had little to no luck with Rheumatologists. Not one of them believed me and my symptoms. I had one tell me I did not have Psoriatic Arthritis, until he did a specialized blood test and it came back positive. All because I don't have the marks on my body that define psoriatic arthritis. It's annoying. I also had a different one that just wanted to give me a prescription for opiates every time I went to see him. Just keep going until you find a doctor that you like and feel comfortable with.

You have to find someone you are comfortable working with. The best referrals are from people that have fibromyalgia. I was fortunate to find my doctor through a support group that had a referral list of who members had found helpful with lots of different options. I chose to go to a rheumatologist but have seen a neurologist as well for testing on my nerves. I can't give advice on the difference - just going with what my primary care physician referred me to after trying to treat me for a year and since I also have osteoarthritis, the rheumatologist seemed the best fit for me!

I've been to Rheumatologists with no luck. I went to w neurologist for my migraines and I loved her. I've had her take over for my fibro as well. With the new research that has been discovered about the connection between the CNS and fibro, she has been very helpful in finding ways to treat my fibro. I love her approach. Just something to think about! Hope it helps!
