Members discussed whether gastric bypass surgery could help with weight loss made difficult by fibromyalgia and other conditions, with experiences ranging widely from one member who lost weight dramatically years after surgery only to regain it, to another whose doctor said she didn't qualify because her medical issues weren't caused by weight. Several members emphasized the importance of thorough research before surgery, noting the challenges of healing with fibromyalgia, the need to manage additional medical appointments, and the reality that even post-surgery weight loss can be inconsistent or temporary. A recurring theme was the shared struggle of trying to lose significant weight while living with chronic pain and thyroid issues, with members offering encouragement to focus on strict diets, work closely with nutritionists, and trust the process even when progress feels slow.

I need to lose at least 100. I had gastric bypass 15+ years ago! long before fibro diagnosis. I went for almost 8 years losing only between 20-30 lbs. then one day, for no reason -I wasn't doing anything differently, I started losing weight, fast. I went from 250+ to 105 lbs in less than a year. The dr thought my gastric surgery had glitches, they went in and all was fine. Then slowly, over the next 5+ years! the weight came back! now I am near 300. I know I have to lose weight...now. But a painful body makes it so hard.
