A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am trying very hard to loose weight and get back into exercise but I was wondering what sort of excercise other do that doesn't cause too much pain? I was wondering if anybody has tried yoga and what you thought of it?

Any type of water exercise is good for weight loss, muscle toning, depression ,pain reduction and if you do it in the evening you sleep sound all night.

Yes, I spent the last year losing weight after I became disabled due to the fibro. and other health related issues. Lyrica and Cymbalta were the two main meds. that has the potential to put the pounds on. Im off of those and moved into the boonies in the Ozarks from Seattle area. So I've totally changed everything.

So in December I started back at the gym. Just the treadmill for ten mins....a few weight machines, it did hurt, and at the same time I realized that if I put the pain in the back of my mind, and feeling my feet step on the treadmill, that it was not bad...now after 4 months I am working out 2-3 hrs 5 days a week.
I also would highly recommend Jon Kabat Zinn's approach to chronic pain conditions working with yoga, gentle yoga and body scans. Some mediation is also wrapped into his program. If you live in a fairly large city you may see some programs offered, usually in medical settings, hospitals etc. However, one of my favorites is some of his meditation tapes, and a book called WHERE EVER YOU GO THERE YOU ARE."
In 1979 he wrote a huge book called "FULL CATASTROPHE LIVING." I was fortunate enough to go train with him up at Mt. Zion in CA, above Santa Cruz in the mtns. So if you google him you will get lots of hits. Good luck my friend and at any time we can connect. Blessings sent to you.

Water exercises and swimming are very good for people with fibro to do. I find that water exercises are pretty much the only exercises I can do without giving up because of hurting too much.

I feel gentle exercise is best.I walk with trekking poles for balance and walk or swim in a heated pool.I found yoga too strenuous so I do tai chi.I don't have a weight probable but am on a gluten free diet.

Water exercise is wonderful and gentle, but yes I was taking somatic yoga up until 9 months ago when I experienced frozen should. I enjoyed the yoga classes and found them to lessen the fatigue.
