Fatigue and Fibro

Posted on March 5, 2018

Fatigue is a common fibromyalgia symptom that can feel like constant burnout. Members of MyFibroTeam say that fibro zaps their energy and mental capacity, making it hard to manage family, work, and friends. “I’ve had fibromyalgia for 20 years and fatigue has always been the worst part for me. NOBODY understands,” said one member. “Utter constant exhaustion has ruined most relationships in my life,” explained another. Members say just having lunch with a friend can be depleting. “After a social outing that exerts mental energy, I’m exhausted. I try to leave an open "recovery day" afterwards,” wrote one woman. Working an office job when you’re always physically and mentally tired adds stress. One member shared this story: “I arrived at work after a few days off for exhaustion. Walking into the reception area, I felt so overwhelmed, I grabbed my bag, ran out the door, got in my car and drove home. I just had a melt down and couldn't face work anymore, so I left after 17 years in the same job.”

On MyFibroTeam, the social network and online support group for those living with fibromyalgia, members talk about a range of personal experiences and struggles. Fatigue is one of the top 10 topics most discussed.
