Can I Have A Hysterectomy Due To My Fibro
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I'm 21 and have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia since Oct last year but have been suffering with it since 2021
I am on the contraceptive pill because I have very painful periods and have been on it since I was 16. Although I still have a bit of pain when I Start .

My question is does anyone know if I can ask for a hysterectomy because of my fibro especially due to my age
I do not want children and I have felt like this since I knew how babies work XD. And even if when Im 30 I suddenly… read more

Small update:
I've been thinking about the long term effects a bit more , mainly the pain that it would cause to my back, this may sound strange to other but I don't really care if it gives me more pain I suffer with horrible pain almost everyday anyways and it would take away the period pain I'd feel.

As for the whole not having children thing that also doesn't really bother me, family does not always equal blood if I do change my mind about kids after this kind of surgery I would just adopt but so far I do not want kids. Yes I'm young to say this but I'll list my reasons:
- I have a lot of genetic inheritable diseases in my family especially cancer I wouldn't want to pass that on
- I also have a lot of mental health issues that are also genetic
- I want to travel the world which u can't do with a child.
- childbirth itself
-I have no patience and would be a terrible mother. I also don't want said kid to end up being my carer when I'm in pain
- global warming
- I have ptsd and loud sounds trigger me , kids are loud and scream sometimes
- I'd rather be the cool aunt
- I don't want my life to revolve around another human being
- the many complications and risks fibro may sometimes cause with pregnancy
- pushing a baby out of a pea sized whole is not appealing to me

I have also grown up with a mom who works as a childminder for my whole life so I've seen the good and the bad. And again if I change my mind I'll adopt there are a lot of kids needing to be adopted.

I also know asking for one at my age would be a very quick no so I have also been thinking about the idea of sterilisation to eliminate the risk of conceiving but this wouldn't really stop my period pain .

Thanks for all your answers and help lou 🩵

I was told by a doctor years ago that it was a good thing I didn't have a hysterectomy (as one doctor wanted to give me one because of fibroids) because it would contribute to more back pain. I just looked on the internet and it says that researchers have proved that a hysterectomy gives rise to chronic back pain due to direct negative impact on pelvic areas, contributing to the collapse of the pelvic organ normally in the lower abdominal region.

They won't allow anyone under certain age to have an hysterectomy, and they are older than you. So, unless where you live have different rules, I doubt it.
Also, it's a bit final to say you don't want children. Anything can happen that will change your mind. I'm 62 and still can't make a decision, without changing it.
I'm sorry you have this awful Fibro at your age, but you have plenty of years, where a cure could be possible. Take care and rest when needed.

I've been told I need a hysterectomy for adenomyosis (which is like endometriosis but only affects the uterus) but to weigh my options bc there's a likelihood I may have worse daily pelvic pain in the long run then I have from the adenomyosis due to my fibromyalgia. So I am on the fence. Also they won't take my ovaries bc of my age (I'm in my mid thirties) even though I have 4 kids and am not having any more kids. The reason they leave the ovaries is bc they produce hormones you need to keep your bones strong among other things. And due to keeping ovaries you still have cycles just without the period. Good luck on what you are wanting to do but it might be a difficult journey to get it done and it might leave you in more pain than you already have. I would love to keep up to date on your journey and the experience you have if you are able to get it done. Best wishes!!!!

Surgery could cause you to have more pain the rest of your life. Good luck with your decision 💖
