I get this if I've been over doing it, or I'm sick, or I'm stressed. I call it sleep paralysis because no one knows what it is. I wake up not being able to move, but my brain is awake and I need to go for a pee urgently so trying to get moving is painful and time consuming. It's exhausting, I can sleep straight away after, and sometimes it happens more than once a night. Please if anyone can relate to this?
My daughter does that as well
Hi there, not sure if this is the same thing as you, but it's called sleep paralysis. You know you're awake, but cannot move. I make great efforts to move my arm or leg and am convinced I've managed it and then suddenly I realise I am still stuck in the same position and haven't moved at all. Also, I often am convinced that my partner or dog is in the room, standing nearby; I can hear their movements and almost see the shape of them (through almost closed eyes, which I cannot open). They were never there. I try and call out too, to get my partner to wake me, but I can barely make any sound. It can be very frightening. Luckily, I tend to experience this mainly if I sleep during the day and not so much at night. For this reason, I gave up afternoon naps many years ago. I read somewhere that when it happens, the best course is not to be afraid, make no effort to move and to go back to sleep. I tried that the last time it happened and it worked; a much happier experience!
This started happening before I was on medication, it was the first sign something was wrong.
I do need to go to the bathroom in the middle of yhe night but, No ā my ability to move is similar to when I am awake.
You medications, Iād read all the side affects from everyone of them. That would be my starting point. (& Who know how two different prescriptions interact)
That sounds miserable. Sounds like your brain is awake but there is a time lag before it sends the signals to get the body moving. Are you taking any prescriptions sleeping pills? Sometimes that can cause an issue upon waking. Good luck sweetie!
