B12 And VitD Levels: What Levels/#’s Does Your Dr Say Is Good For Fibro?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi there,

2 things: B12 & VitD blood levels
1. How high is good or normal for your B12 level per your doctor?
2. How high is good or normal for your VitD level per your doctor?
3. Do you take prescription versions of these or/and over the counter?
4. If your Doctor has told you higher levels are better because you have fibro, what are they and has she/he shared any data/studies to confirm such?

Please share!

There are standard values (normal, low, etc) for these tests and many dr’s say… read more

I would add the vitamin D. Did you ask him how many to take? I’ve taken “Ddrops” daily for several years. I take 4000 IC daily. My d levels went from 19 to 44, which doctor said is good. It took awhile. Also everyone’s levels will be different when said and done.

okay - I'm confused... I just had my blood work done a few weeks ago. My B12 and VD levels show they are "in the normal range" but they both are on the super-low part of the normal range. The Dr. encouraged me to add an oral VD to my regimen but said nothing about the B12.
I've added leafy greens to my diet. but what else should I do? I have felt just awful lately......

The Doctors I have had could care less about whether the prescription meds they prescribed and the prescriptions other Doctors have prescribed could negatively interact with each other. So they certainly did not take the time to learn about Vitamins B12 and D. It makes me sad to write that the Doctors I have seen really don't care anything at all about Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D.

I don't recall how I stumbled into this information online, but Fibromyalgia sufferers can have a Vitamin B12 defficiency. You can find many articles about this online with a simple search of Fibromyalgia and Vitamin B12. Since learning this in 2019, for me, Vitamin B12 does give me a little energy boost. (Vitamin B12 has been helping me for 2 years now AND I have had no negative side effects.) I've had Fibromyalgia since 1991 and I only stumbled into this information in 2019, so extremely sad that one of my doctors could have easily added Vitamin B12 to my diet and I would have had a little more energy all those years. I haven't checked into Vitamin B12 injections, one should find out about that from their doctor. Many factors determine Vitamin B12 dosage, IF a woman is pregnant, your age, IF you are vegetarian, IF you have issues involving your GI tract. My recommendation for the correct dose of Vitamin B12 for you as an individual, is to check with ALL of your doctors.

One factor that determines Vitamin D deficiencies -- where you live. Vitamin D deficiencies are less common in sunshine states. Direct sunlight, the direct light rays from the sun can be a good source for Vitamin D.

IF you have a doctor who is concerned about your Vitamin B12 levels and Vitamin D levels, then you should be very thankful. Hopefully one day I'll find one of those doctors in my area.

NOTE: I did have one excellent pain Dr that actually spent time with me and did not rush me, but she is retired now, and I doubt I'll find another pain Dr like her. I really, really liked her. (But she didn't tell me about Vitamin B12.)

If you have your blood test, it tells you what the normal readings are.. if you are below or above the normal range. I was very low at 19. Now I’m 42, which is fine. I take D drops. Sun doesn’t seem to affect it. I know some doctors have their patients go on real high doses. Which has worked for them. I get a headache. Over the counter B 12 never worked for me. But after having my blood levels checked I found out my ratings were really good.
