When You Wake Up From Severe Pain
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I tend to wake up from severe muscle pain any time between 3am and 5am. I stretch myself, change my icy patches, and use heating pad, but it's hard to go back to bed. Does anyone experience the same thing? How do you deal with it? I don't want to have to take a hot bath in middle of the night, but that might help... ?

Working from home is definitely helpful when I'm really sleepy and exhausted every morning.

Do you do gentle 🙆‍♀️ stretching?
I do after shower, before I sleep...and throughout day if I’m tight. Can’t get on floor anymore so do standing and on bed.
When I waken I take cbd and tinctures of passionflower etc. Snd rub arnica Nd Magnesium gel, or cbd cream. I’m able to go back to sleep this way for three hours.

I have found that the amino acid l-theanine seems to help relax my muscles.

Oh, yeah. I wake up from the pain and it is hard for me to go back to get comfy to go back to sleep. I haven't done all that you have tried. It happens at various hours for me. I wish I had answers for you.

I certainly understand that you feel epsom salt bath doesn't do anything. I too feel that way sometimes! I usually get in a scalding hot bath and then end up sweating for 15 minutes afterwards so I wonder, why bother? But I keep doing it just because it's the only thing that actually feels good to me all day long. That intense heat washing over me when I first slide in actually makes me gtoan with the relief. It's the only time I completely recognize how much pain I feel from head to toe. But then again, by the time I dry off and get dressed, any benefit is lost just from the hassle of drying off! However, they say the magnesium from epsom salt is actually absorbed through our skin. That's why it's important to actually soak for awhile. We may not notice anything, but it is helpful towards relaxation. Our muscles use magnesium to relax. Plus, I think there's something to the fact you are making time for yourself. You are alone, in a nice warm bath doing nothing except relaxing. It's sort of soothes your soul. After about 15 minutes, I also will sit up and start stretching my legs, touching my toes, so that adds another reason to hassle with the bath. I can't even come close to touching my toes normally, but after soaking, I found that I can actually grab my arches. So there's obviously some benefit, it's just not super noticable. It kinda reminds me of removing sodas from my diet. One little thing slowly dropped 5 lbs. I didn't notice the weight loss, but my pants did!

Hi everyone! Thank you for taking the time to respond!

I do gentle stretching. My partner bought me Epsom bath salt, so I use it when I take a hot bath, but I can't feel any difference with it or without it. I think the temperature just helps me. My doctor prescribed me a muscle relaxer called Baclofen, but I don't know if it's working...
