The Gut Connection
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've said for a long time, my gut is directly tied to my brain and neurological symptoms. Has anyone else noticed a direct link between their gut and their fibro? I have been doing well the last several months. Eating well and moving out of a horrible year of symptoms. But I had a colonoscopy this week. Which means I had to endure the clean-cut before. Well, three days later... vertigo, muscle spasms, etc. Direct link with me.

My gut is a train wreck. I actually had a doctor tell me that. I’ve had IBS-C pretty much my whole life. I’ve seen so many different doctors regarding my stomach. When I developed fibro, my stomach got much worse and I knew I had to get serious to heal it. I started with a well known holistic doctor, he had me increase my fruit and vegetables. That’s when I found out my stomach won’t digest vegetables unless they are cooked/steamed. It was a very painful lesson. Even after they are cooked, I can’t have many....another painful lesson. I worked with him for 6 months, changing foods, taking supplements. Nothing changed. I appreciated after 6 month he admitted he could not help me. He actually told me to go back to my gastro, he is the one that told me my stomach was a train wreck. I also saw a functional Medicine doctor for a year and a half. That’s when I discovered food is not a trigger to any of my health problems. She ran several tests, even a 3 day stool sample study. All that came of that was, I didn’t have enough fat in my diet. She put me on the elimination diet, to me that has to be the worst diet ever. I stuck to that diet religiously. All that did was cost me a lot of money and to lose weight that I couldn’t afford to lose. Finally, in the summer of 2017, I saw the top gastro at University of Michigan. I spent most of that summer in labs and hospitals, every test came back OK. He admitted that my diet was good, I was doing all the right things. He said “you have IBS” 😡 I already knew that. So, if Healing my gut is going to help me.....how do I heal it when 3 gastro’s, a holistic and functional doctor can’t 🤷🏼‍♀️
