Flare-ups After Working In An Air Conditioned Office
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone, I have managed to change to a 3 day week (hoorah). I work in an air conditioned office with about 200 others. My job is desk bound and not particularly stressful.
After my 3rd day at work, I usually get a flare-up which is usually quite mild but once every month it stops me from doing anything at lasts several days.
Could it be the air conditioning, being around lots of people or sitting down at a desk all day?
Anyone else experienced similar?

I'm retired now but when I worked in air conditioning was real bad for flare ups, would have preferred open windows with fans but that's impossible in most buildings....be great to find work without those issues...good luck

Hi. I changed from catering to office work and found that I have had throat and chest infection 4 times over 6 and half months. My job is at risk so I dont even know if I will have a job to go back to when I get back. Although I thought it would be a better job for me I feel it's made my health worse and my body cant cope with catering anymore. I prefer temping as I can work when I like then but not always the work I like.

I find daily that when i am in air condition all day long and I may be in pain while there.. as soon as I walk out and am in the heat or other weather my body then feels different. The dry coolness of the air condition helps. Environments affect us. Well it does me.

Beyond air conditioning. Different places make us feel differently as well. So, how is one place different from the other? Do you feel more at ease in one place compared to the other? Yes, there are people who say work is there happy place, cause it allows them to do what they love doing. So, may the other places be happy places too... there can be more than one. It varies from person to person.

I hope that you can find way to break out of that cycle . As it is never fun to be off work and in a flare. Hugs

Hi, I work in an office too. I think it could be day down mist of the day that doesn't help. I'm lucky as I had an o/h assessment done that days I need to get up and walk or stretch every 40 mins and I can't do the same amount of work due to poor concentration and fibro fog. I have to stay until 6.30 one night but I can do it on a Wednesday so I get a mid week rest. We have ceiling fans on but sometimes it does maybe shivery and more achy. By weekend I'm wiped out and sleep most of it. It's also odd that the whole office can get flu in winter but I don't catch it?!

Thanks Anne that is helpful. x
It is comforting that I'm not alone and not going mad! It's difficult to explain this to loved ones.
