Flares/constant?
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

How does your pain fluctuate? Do you have flares or is it just consistent? I started out having flares, maybe one every month or so which lasted about a week. For a while i actually thought nothing was wrong with me because i would feel so normal between flares and actually “feel good” that i was like ok maybe that one week every month is just me being tired or sleeping in a weird position or somthing. Then came the flares lasting longer almost 2 weeks so i would only go 2 weeks without pain… read more

I don’t care what anyone says, this illness is definitely progressive!! When I first had fibro, I usually just had it in the winter, then came the damp times of spring and fall and of course now the hot summer bothers me too. I do have flares still where the pain is definitely worse but other than that it’s constant all day. After having this for 12-15 years, I recently had a reprieve from pain for six months. In January of this year, for some reason I felt like a million bucks!! I even joined a gym at the end of Jan which I’ve never done in my life although I was always active in competitive sports. My sons wedding was in June and almost as soon as it was over, my pain gradually started back with a vengeance!! I can’t explain why this happened but my nurse friend said it could have been adrenaline that kept me going with barely any pain, then once the adrenaline rush of the wedding was over, then my pain came back. Makes sense!!

Thanks everyone all of your answers really helped. @A MyFibroTeam Member i have heard of there being research to see if it was autoimmune but it was all inconclusive. So there has been more recently? I feel like once it is actually considered autoimmune doctors will take it much more seriously.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Never permit a doctor to keep you in pain. The main reason I am always challenging my doctors is their treatment of pain. I dramatically changed my diet. I only cook with organic butter and organic olive oil. I broil or air fry. I drink lots of ginger, mint and green tea. I take high-quality supplements like vitamin D3, Magnesium L Threonate, B vitamins, potassium, and lypospheric vitamin C. I love candy, but I seriously cut back on desserts, sodas and fruit drinks. I also love sandwiches, but now I rarely eat any bread products. I am always searching for healthier alternatives to Rx and OTC drugs because my mother became addicted to Rx and OTC pain medications and these drugs damaged her intestines and stomach.

I do believe , from readings in medical journals etc. that this is a progressive disease. I am 74 now and have had various symptoms for at least 30 years. Not knowing what the were at that time. Progressive yes,,terminal ,no. A very difficult disease to live😮 withI wis all my fibro mates good days a plenty and keep your spirits up any way you can. As I wrote before meditation truly helps flare ups can be short or last for a couple of weeks. I know that if I go overboard in activities the flare up occurs. For how long I never know. Best wishes to all for good days filled with joy🥰

Everyone is different. For me I get a flare up everyday. I notice I get them a lot because im under a lot of stress. Something that people living with Fibromyalgia should not do. But when you're young and face with this life sentence it's very upsetting. But I have to practice not stressing because I have high blood and that can cause me to die. Its very scary to be in this pain and it causes other things.
