Keratosis Pilaris
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all,

Not strictly a Fibro problem but not helped due to not getting much sun exposure and exercise etc

Does anyone have this? Any recommendations for improving it?

Any advice would be great, thank you.

If I am understanding this, you don't get a lot of sunlight or exercise. I am just waking apologies.
As a person who has issues with getting alot of sun, I get it. Have had sun issues since I was very young. I am quite light sensitive in my eyes too. I have found, in my 20s, I have a broken/messed up thyroid. Never thought much of it til recently. It controls my hot/cold sensitivity in the body. Might be why I am not happy in direct sunlight or get colder faster then others.

As for exercise, that's a matter of taste in my view point. Not all of us are into sports. I am not a huge fan, as most sports are played in the sun. However, I am a gamer. I love my Xbox time. So, I purchased a Wii. Previously enjoyed but good condition. I do yoga and anything exercise related at night as I am a night person. It helps me watch my weight and I choose my foods wisely.

Not everyone will be interested in that, however there is YouTube. I have found Richard Simmons workouts. They're low impact and music filled. Anything you want to try is there. Who cares if you're not perfect? I know I am not but I'm trying and not giving in or up

Taff as you can't be in the sun your Vit. D could be quite low. A good supplement can counter act that. As for exercise , you can just move gently .
Wander around your house and back. march in place for a minute or two. As long as you move ! It does not need to be for long just as long as you do a bit of something. Short wee bursts of any gentle movement during the day.
Think of a Sloth . (smile) slow and easy. If you can move faster than that hey ok. If not that's ok too. Just move . the other person mentioned , Wii is excellent!
I used to love the bowling. So much fun ! I got pretty good at it too.
It got sold , unfortunately. But , what I'm saying is , if it's fun , you are more apt to do it. Or motivated. Any how, find something dear.
All the best. God bless you brother !

I am Celiac and always thought the flare ups of chicken skin was caused from a Spru (Flareup which can be common fo those being Celiac) Maybe it has been the FM all this time.

Sounds like you have a very high turn over of skin cells. That will cause the white/greyish buildup. The name for that does not come to mind.
It is an accumulation of skin cells and oil (sebum) . A gentle buffing with your cloth should help. Yes, it sure can be stubborn.
The Chicken Skin is common among Fibro people. Not sure what to do for that.
Other than your routine shower , buffing with your cloth and a good rinse off.
Again, a good dermatologist would know.
So wish I knew more dear.

Hi,

I think I confused everyone with this post, I meant the skin condition Keratosis Pilaris (sometimes called chicken skin). Small bumps on skin in hair follicles, mostly on arms and legs.

The lack of sun exposure doesn’t help it. Anyone else get this and have a solution?

I also get white/greyish buildup on my skin that scrapes off after bathing, I think this is somewhat normal though? I shower daily but it’s very stubborn to remove.
