How Do You Manage Without Medications
A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi everyone
For any of you that do not take medications, can you tell me what has actually, I mean REALLY, worked for you? I am on medications and want to possibly get off of them. I have tried, exercise, yoga, tai chi, meditation, massage, vitamins, baths, acupuncture, physical therapy and none of it is enough to help me through my days without my meds. The reason I want to possible stop, is actually two reasons. 1. I seem to always get a new pain specialist every year even though it is the… read more

Excellent idea to keep going to the same doctor no matter where they go and you can even get exceptions if your doctor is not in the insurance's network. Continuity of care is crucial to your health. But, believe me, I feel your frustration. The idea of being a suffering patient for the rest of your life is driving you crazy and in addition to frustrated you are probably pretty pissed. I was. It's extremely hard to lose the person you used to be but at the same time you have an opportunity to continue but differently than you foresaw. I was in therapy for a long time to learn how to cope with my conditions. I worked for a large financial institution and I had plans to move to the international institution's operation. I daydreamed of espresso under the Duomo in Florence and life on an expense account once my kids were off to college. Sigh. We are forced to give up a lot and it hurts like hell. Try to turn your anger towards your condition. You beat fibro by being in the best condition you can manage. Take your meds like clockwork. Make time for yourself during the day. Give yourself 3 20 minute sessions a day where you lay down and focus on the best of times you had and the ones you will have. There is nothing as difficult, terrifying, and rewarding as raising a baby. Those little critters are simply wonderful and you have all of that to look forward to. Consider a muscle relaxer because much of the pain we feel comes from muscle spasms and relieving cramped muscles is a big relief. We get micro spasms that make our muscles hard and generate pain and a muscle relaxer might help. Therapy works. Take naps with your baby. You're going to want to see the man or woman you've created. To see this unique little thing who is you and not you, your husband and not your husband really, but the best human that will ever live. We nurturers carry the most important responsibility in this world. We chose to continue the human race by raising stellar humans each of whom will be the best representative of the human race. Hang in there and be good to yourself. You deserve it.

Why stop the meds? I'd rather be fat and happy than thin and miserable? Thinness is a fad and there is a lot of misinformation, hysteria about drugs, and hype about meds which I suspect is generated by the herbal pill pushers and we're all stuck in the middle. If you're meds are helping you keep taking them and always consult your doctor about any change to your med regimen. We need meds to make up for the missing functions in our bodies. Some can be taken AS NEEDED. Some pain meds like aspirin can be taken only when you need it. On the other hand most anti-depressants can be dangerous to stop and in some cases kill you if you stop taking it. Never ever change your med regimen without consulting your doctor. The other consideration is the risk of screwing up the doctors treatment plan. Doctors assume you will follow his/her direction faithfully because he is scientifically experiment to find the right set of meds for you. Everything you tell the doctor about your illness is considered along with the the possibility that you may have other conditions that need attention. You get a follow up appointment to evaluate the efficacy of your activity/med regimen and adjusts accordingly. Lastly, remember that some meds work quickly and others, like serotonin re-uptake inhibitors may take a month or 2 to maximize their efficacy because some brain chemicals can't be change directly because they are metabolized according to a set of conditions within your body. The neurotransmitter serotonin can't be ingested so you're doctor prescribes meds that produce the conditions in your body that will set off and maintain serotonin production. On the other hand, melotonin, the neurotransmitter that engenders sleep can be ingested but don't try it without consulting your doc because you can have a horrible experience if you try it. We are sufficiently different so that what works for me may not work for you. Unless you are a licensed physician DO NOT play around with your meds because you don't know enough to not kill yourself.
Follow your doctors directions, take your CBD oil, and have a really good pain-free day. :-)

Hello. I tried medications for a few months, but my body starts adjusting to them quickly. I’ve gone through withdrawal once and that was enough to get me off medications for the rest of my life. It is a real struggle not being on anything, but I just take it as reality. I take the pain, fatigue and overall blah feeling on an everyday basis. If the pain is too much, I will just pop on Advil to help. I noticed that without meds, I feel my pain tolerance and mental strength increasing. Wishing the best for you!

I have been on most of presciption pills for fybro. most of them were awful to get off of. Do not know what you are taking- just some advice go off of your prescriptions with drs. guidance.

I take a few tyl #3 in the day and regular tyl. I use heat in the winter on my backand neck etc. I would suggest to look up adrenal etc. Lots of vitamins that are I think can be combined with prescriptions as b vit, vit 12, magnesium etc. some adrenal products I would caution anything that has licorice in it as this will increase your blood pressure. still it is good to call pharmacy and make sure no side effects with prescriptions you are on.

Look up POTS
Look up adrenal
look up thyroid- get this checked out
look up b12- get this level checked out.

end of story annie-

Try a chiropractor. I saw one for a couple of years and it was really helpful.
