Ok. My salivary glands hurt. All of them. They burn and ache. I am at my wits end. I’ve been holding off on taking drugs as I am trying to recover from being taken off Ativan and I am extremely sensitive to meds. But I can’t keep doing this. It’s like I sit inside my own head and worry about everything going on in my body. Please, what works for you? What have you been found to be the most benefit in symptom relief and recovery?
Try a hot compress and gentle, circular pressure to the glands that hurt. It's possible to have small blockages or cysts form in glands. Biting into sour things like lemons can stimulate your salivary glands to produce more fluid. Drink plenty of fluids (especially something that has a decent electrolyte/mineral balance, like reverse osmosis or a quality electrolyte additive) to encourage your lymph and other fluids to circulate freely. Also try to lubricate your whole head region (eye drops--restasis is the best if you can get it, saline nasal spray, gargling with salt water...
Not to be alarmist, but it may be worth pursuing this particular symptom with a doctor. My mother has sjogren's syndrome, which causes fluid secreting glands (salivary and tear especially) to dry up. She was diagnosed with a blood test ordered by a rheumatologist.
I hope you find some relief.
